From April 25-27, the 9th Herbicide Technology Conference was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The event was hosted by China Pesticide Development & Application Association and Shandong Pesticide Science Institute, organized by the Association's Herbicide Professional Committee, and supported by the Weed Science Branch of China Society of Plant Protection. Leaders and experts attending included Zhou Puguo, President of the Association; Lu Jianfei, Director of Zhejiang Plant Protection, Quarantine and Pesticide Management Station; Lin Ronghua, Deputy Director of Pesticide Efficacy Review Division at Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture; Zhang Shuai, Deputy Director of Pesticide Equipment Division at National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center; Shen Ping, Researcher at Science and Technology Development Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs; Sun Wangang, Secretary of Shandong Pesticide Science Institute; Dong Liyao, Chairman of the Association's Herbicide Professional Committee (Professor at Nanjing Agricultural University); and Li Xiangju, President of Weed Science Branch, China Society of Plant Protection (Chief Scientist at Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences). Over 230 experts and representatives from herbicide management, research, production, operation, promotion, and application sectors attended the conference.
Leadership Speeches at the Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was presided over by Hua Rongjun, Secretary General of the Association. The presentation sessions were chaired by Wang Jinxin, Professor at Shandong Agricultural University; Huang Mingzhi, General Manager of Maxunitech Inc.; Wu Aimin, Editor-in-Chief of Jiangsu Agricultural Science and Technology News; Wang Guangxiang, Researcher at Plant Protection Institute of Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Zhang Yong, Deputy Director of Institute of Plant Protection and Agricultural Product Quality Safety, Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences; and Zhang Banglin, Chairman of Anhui Fengle Agrochemical Co., Ltd.

In his remarks, President Zhou Puguo emphasized that this conference focuses on discussing herbicide technology development, analyzing trends, exchanging information, and exploring future prospects. He shared three key insights:
First, maintaining commitment to green development. This involves continuing to reduce pesticide usage while increasing efficiency, promoting green control products and technologies for crop diseases, pests, and weeds, and advancing sustainable, high-quality agricultural development.
Second, adhering to market-oriented innovation. While China has recently developed several new herbicide products, market orientation is crucial for their success. Market and brand demands drive the safe use of agricultural measures and ecological safety across mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes, deserts, and grasslands, making safe and scientific herbicide use inevitable.
Third, embracing global trade patterns. While China exports over half of its annual pesticide production, most exports are limited to products rather than brands, standards, and concepts. Further alignment with international practices is needed. The pesticide industry's development must be guided by a global perspective.

Deputy Director Lin Ronghua, Researcher Shen Ping, Professor Dong Liyao, Professor Wang Jinxin, Professor Zhang Jinlin from Hebei Agricultural University, Professor Ye Fei from Northeast Agricultural University, Professor Tao Bo from Northeast Agricultural University, Professor Zhao Changshan from Northeast Agricultural University, Professor Ji Mingshan from Shenyang Agricultural University, Researcher Wei Youhai from Qinghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Researcher Li Mei from Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Researcher Zhou Xiaogang from Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences presented reports on "Analysis of New Policies and Products for Herbicide Registration in China in Recent Two Years," "Industrialization of GM Crops and Its Impact on Herbicide Industry," "Weed Control Technology in Rice-Wheat Rotation Paddy Fields in Middle and Lower Reaches of Yangtze River," "Weed Control Technology in Wheat Fields in Huang-Huai-Hai Region," "Discovery and Product Creation of New High-efficiency Target Herbicides," "Development and Application of Herbicide Safeners in China," "Aerial Application Technology," "Issues in Herbicide Application and Weed Control Technology in Transplanted Rice Fields in Northeast Region," "Weed Control Technology in Corn Fields in Northeast China," "Weed Control Technology in Spring Wheat Fields in China," "Weed Control Technology in Summer Corn Fields in Huang-Huai-Hai Region," and "Weed Control Technology in Tobacco Fields in China." Representatives from relevant enterprises also conducted technical exchanges.
