Embracing Innovation and Pursuing Excellence

During the development of flufenacet technical material, the R&D team faced significant patent barriers from international originator companies and fierce competition from domestic rivals. Driven by ambition and perseverance, the team overcame various technical challenges and patent roadblocks in a short period. They pioneered a new synthetic route, securing domestic and international patents, and successfully industrialized production, exporting to Europe.

This achievement positioned the company as the first generic manufacturer of flufenacet technical material globally, providing customers with high-quality products equivalent to the originator’s at a lower cost. This benefitted end-users and expanded market opportunities for the company, driving significant commercial success. The breakthrough enhanced the company’s reputation in the industry, contributing to Maxunitech Inc. being awarded the AGROW Global Best Supplier Award in 2015.

In response to increasing resistance from grassy weeds (such as Alopecurus japonicus and Lolium species) in post-rice wheat fields in the Yangtze River Basin, the company introduced 41% flufenacet SC (Hehejing®). This soil-applied herbicide solution was promoted in Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, and Henan, sparking widespread adoption. The solution addressed longstanding weed resistance issues, earning farmers’ trust and recognition.

Maxunitech Inc.’s R&D team not only excels in developing new products but also continually refines production processes for existing products. Trinexapac-ethyl ester has long been one of the company’s flagship products. In response to rising competition and stricter EHSQ regulations, the R&D team initiated comprehensive improvements to the production process as early as 2006.

By thoroughly studying the mechanisms of primary and side reactions, the team successfully optimized each production step and upgraded the catalyst. The improved production technology was patented and scaled for industrial use. The new generation of trinexapac-ethyl ester production significantly reduced waste emissions while lowering raw material and manufacturing costs, rejuvenating the product and enhancing its competitiveness and market share.

Solanum nigrum (black nightshade) is one of the most harmful and difficult-to-control weeds in Xinjiang cotton fields. To address the challenge of controlling the invasive weed Solanum nigrum in Xinjiang cotton fields, which previously lacked effective treatments, our company assembled a research team of over 30 experts. Over a span of 17 years and with an investment exceeding 70 million yuan, we overcame numerous obstacles in organic synthesis, formulation design, production processes, and application technologies. This effort led to the development of Longcaojing®, a novel herbicide that ensures cotton safety, effectively eliminates Solanum nigrum and other invasive weeds, offers prolonged efficacy, and provides cost efficiency. The herbicide is complemented by a comprehensive set of application technologies tailored to the region's existing plastic mulch drip irrigation farming model.

After five years of field research and trials, the herbicide was officially registered with ICAMA in 2019 under the new pesticide registration framework. Over six years, Longcaojing® was demonstrated and promoted across 15 million mu (1 million hectares) of cotton fields in northern and southern Xinjiang.

The results confirmed that Longcaojing® effectively controls Solanum nigrum while ensuring cotton safety, earning widespread acclaim from cotton farmers. It was recognized as one of the Top-Selling Herbicide Brands in the National Plant Protection Market in 2019.
